Mark Hobley
INTERVIEW

What do you like about living in Birmingham?
It is useful to be able to go to Birmingham to obtain specialized goods such as car parts and things like that. There are lots of suppliers, and prices are comparitively reasonable. However, Ideally, I would like to move to the seaside.
Where would you like to move to?
North Wales probably, but I am open minded. It really depends on what I can afford.
Would you ever consider moving abroad?
Yeah possibly. I do look at houses overseas from time to time.
What made you start working with children?
I love working with children, it is very rewarding. I did this as voluntary work for a couple of years.
What are your favourite leisure activities?
I love camping, caravanning, flying model aircraft and being in the countryside.
What is your favourite type of car?
A Volvo Estate definately. My dream is to own a motorhome though, and I am also very interested in military vehicles. I would much rather have a camper van or a hummer than a sports car.
Which is more your style, High Street Fashion or Down to Earth Practical Clothing?
Given the choice of shopping with Giorgio Armani or the Army Surplus Store, I would choose the Army Surplus Store any day. I like hardwearing and reasonably priced practical clothing, and I prefer the rugged casual look to the smart formal look. I also like to wear sports clothes, but I don't buy them usually unless are reasonably priced.
Where do you like to go for your holidays?
I am not really the type of person who lies on a beach all day soaking up the sun. I like to travel and to see things. I would love to visit Germany, Normandy and New Zealand. I have already visited Romania, Hungary and the United States of America. My cousins have recently moved to France, so that is probably my next holiday.
What do you watch on television?
I watch a lot of documentary programmes and World War II stuff, but I also like to watch action movies, romantic films and comedy shows such as Black Adder, Only Fools and Horses, etc.
Name some of the best movies you have seen
Terminator Two, Perl Harbour, Shawshank Redemption, The Others, Love Actually
Who are your favourite comedy performers?
Ronnie Barker, Katy Brand and Lucy Montgomery (Don't Look at Me)
Who is the sexiest woman on television?
Katy Brand is very much my type. However I also like Martine McCutcheon and Carla from Coronation Street, and that girl off the "Injury Lawyers For You" advert (The fit one who is "fighting hard for you"). Oh ... and Charlotte Church.
Who is your hero?
Arnold Schwarzenegger definately.
Who would you most like to chat to?
Kim Peake (The real rainman). He is a walking Google.
What music do you like?
I like mostly classic rock songs. however I also like Blondie, REM, Heart, Elton John, Gloria Estefan, Madonna, Howard Jones, Yazoo and Deacon Blue.
Can you play any musical instruments?
No. I had piano lessons once, but I can only play oranges and lemons. I would like to learn to play the guitar, but I need a left handed one.
Do you like dancing?
No. I am absolutely hopeless at dancing. I always dreamed that one day I would marry a dancer, and she would teach me to dance like John Travolta, but it never happened.
What job do you do?
I am a computer programmer by trade. I worked for a software house that specialized in barcoding and warehouse management systems, but I currently work part time at a college.
Why did you leave your IT job?
A combination of things really. There was a group of people made redundant, and the company was using Microsoft Windows more and more, and I just hated working with that platform. The demand for low level procedural programming, which is what I specialize in was just not there any more.
What are your career aspirations?
I am quite a technical person, so I would like to return to the computer industry in some sort of consultancy / technical implementation / programming type of role. I don't enjoy being chained to a desk or tied to one place. I am quite practical and knowledgeable in many subjects, so I am really a "Jack of all Trades".
Why are you single?
This isn't by choice. I have been extremely unlucky, and I have spent a lot of time chasing losers and dead-beats.
So you want children then huh?
Oh yes. Definately. I have always wanted children. Huh! I even work with 'em. I would be very happy to meet a girl who already has children. Life without kids is boring.
Why don't you just go out and meet someone?
It's not that easy. I can't dance, and I am a relatively shy person on first contact (although once I am talking, I can talk for England). The girls that I go for are usually quite confident and loud. Another problem is that I am not very tall, but the girls that I like are usually quite well built. I usually get blazed if I approach a girl, so I tend to let them approach me (which doesn't happen very often).
